Boy, Oh Boy

Boy, Oh Boy...I am the worst blogger. I have not updated our blog in a long time (as if you didn't notice).

BUT

Boy, Oh Boy...things are going to change around our home come next year. We are expecting a baby BOY! We are so excited!!!!!!!

So needless to say, I have been thinking and dreaming all things boy lately...

We thought we liked one particular name. Now that we know the baby is a boy, things have changed. lol! So the name game has begun.....how fun!!!!

I will be back soon..I promise...I have bunch of pics to go through and post from this summer and I'm sure I will throw in an ultrasound pic or two.

Until then, enjoy the beauty of this season..Oh how I love it! There's just something about the smell of fall in the air...and might I add, it's even stronger smelling when you are pregnant! =)

Visit to Ohio

The end of May, Mackenzie and I visited with my parents while Michael attended a conference in Kentucky. Although we were only there for three days, we made the most it.

My parents took us to the wild animal park which is only a few miles from their home. We love this animal park! It is a must see every time we visit. You actually get to ride on a big wagon and they give you a bucket of food to feed the animals when they come to the wagon. There are zebra, elk, deer, pigs, ostriches, water buffalo, cattle, bison, and more.

They look big in this pic, but they are really small..only a couple of weeks old. Sooo cute! It was adorable to see them playing with each other.

As you can see, the animals at this park are not shy about getting fed!

Mackenzie decided that she needed two buckets...that is until the animals started to come up to the wagon and stick their long tongues in the wagon. She was not so keen about that idea!!!

While we were in Ohio, we got to spend some time with my brother Jerry as well. He came to my parents for a day. Everyone needs an Uncle Jerry...as you can tell!!!

Mackenzie has taken on a green thumb. She loves to help me plant and water flowers. Whenever we fill her pool up, she spends more time using her snail watering can to water plants than actual "swimming" in the water.

I have been spoiled this weekend! Yesterday morning, Michael jumped out of bed as soon as Kenzie woke up. Before I knew it, Kenzie and Dada were in the bedroom with breakfast. Kenzie hopped right up on the bed and was smiling from ear to ear as if she knew exactly what was going on. She thought it was fun to eat strawberries in bed. =) I also received some beautiful flowers from Dada and Kenzie along with an adorable card. Then today, Michael took us out for a delicious brunch at a local restaurant. I am so blessed to be a mom and a wife. Thank you God for blessing me with Michael and Mackenzie.

Here's some Sunday love to you! Isn't she the cutest?!? I am loving this age. She is definitely showing her personality these days more than ever. She is very talkative and friendly. There isn't a place that we go that she does not yearn for a hello back from a stranger. In fact, the other day we were at the grocery store and she kept saying "hi" (while working that Miss America wave as well) to a lady who came in right behind us. Well, the lady didn't know Mackenzie was saying "hi" to her, and Mackenzie was beginning to sense that she was being ignored by this lady. So little Miss Mackenzie kept saying "hi" louder and louder while shaking around in her seat. Finally, the woman noticed. Mackenzie had the biggest smile on her face and was talking a million miles a minute while trying to reach out to touch the lady. And yes, she wants to touch everyone...It was pretty cute and the lady was very appreciative of Mackenzie's kindness. Our prayer is that she when she is older she will continue to use her kindness and friendliness to reach others to Christ.

We spent some time during Christmas vacation playing in the snow. We went sledding once which Mackenzie actually enjoyed despite the very chilly temps. We also spent some time in our yard making snow angels. Well, I made a snow angel and Mackenzie cried because she could hardly move in her snowsuit. She definitely played the role of Ralphie very well. Then we went inside for hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. We have had so much fun celebrating the birth of our king these past few days. This is the first year that it has only been the three of us. Although we missed sharing it with our extended families, we really enjoyed our Christmas for three!

On Christmas Eve, we went to our church's Christmas Eve service. Then, we came home and ate our traditional wedding soup with pretzel salad for dessert. Michael and I both grew up having wedding soup on Christmas Eve. It is the only time of the year that we have it, and we look forward to it ever year. The first year I made it, it literally took me all day to make, but for some reason this year I was done after four hours. I don't know how I managed to pull that one off with a very busy little girl...I mean baby...you know, she still is our baby! After we were done eating, Mackenzie opened a gift of new pajamas. I think it is such a sweet little tradition, and it is enough to hold her over until Christmas morning.

I will share some details about our Christmas day over the next few days. Time to go watch a movie with my hubby. Hope you had a great Christmas and are still enjoying the joys of the season!

On Halloween, we attended our church's harvest party. Mackenzie had a lot of fun "fluttering" around from game to game seeing how much candy she could sneak from the buckets...she hit the cookie table too! Needless to say, we had a pretty hyper child after two hours. Thankfully it's only once a year!

This weekend we took Mackenzie to Washington's apple country. We were really looking forward to picking some apples and pumpkins. However, it started to downpour and continued to do so the rest of the day. We were able to make a quick visit to a petting zoo before it started to rain. Although the rain "ruined" our plans, it was nice to just get out and enjoy the fall colors.

Mackenzie and I leave on Thursday (Michael will join us in a couple of weeks) for our long awaited trip to Ohio to visit family and friends. It's hard to believe that I will be leaving Washington with an 11 month-old and returning in four weeks (that's not a typo) with a ONE Year Old! It is really hot here today...like 103 degrees hot! Mackenzie took a little..and I mean little...swim in her pool yesterday in the 98 degree weather. She loves baths, but hates swimming pools..even if we put warm water in it. She does love her new turtle outfit that Aunt Mimi (Tami) sent her. Thanks Aunt Mimi!

Mackenzie and I surprised Dada at the airport yesterday. Mackenzie leaped into his arms and buried her head in his chest. She had been waiting for that moment all week. Oh my goodness...this girl amazes me! Her little...I mean BIG...personality has been coming out full force this week. Whenever she thinks she has done something cute, she looks up at me with a big smile on her face. She knows what she wants and what she doesn't want...and she makes sure you know too! She's been cruising around the house. She might even be walking before dada comes home next week. Speaking of dada, he called us yesterday from Africa. Mackenzie thought it was just another one of mommy's many daily phone calls. Boy did things change when I put him on the speaker...she was flailing her arms and squealing with excitement as soon as she heard his voice. Mackenzie said, "Dada go" while waving bye-bye. (We taught her "Dada go bye-bye" before he left.) We look forward to seeing dada one week from tomorrow!

They made it!

I was so relieved to have received an email from Bonnie (missionary in Burkina Faso) when I got home from church saying that they made it. It was an uneventful trip and all their luggage made it. What an answer to prayer! Thank you Lord! They are in Ouagadugou where they will spend the night and drive to Bobo-Diolasso tomorrow. I am sure that they are all exhausted after traveling for 24 hours. Please pray that God will remove any jet leg and that they will feel refreshed and full of energy tomorrow when they wake up. Thanks for your prayers!

A Lake With Babbling Streams

Mackenzie and I are doing great despite some minor home malfunctions. We had just a little sprinkler system malfunction that caused a lake to form in our front yard with a beautiful stream stretching down the block. If you looked at it in just the right angle, you could see a rainbow. I made sure to point that out to our friend's daughter as our friend in his church clothes laid down on the ground to stick his arm down a foot of water to close the valve. Did I mention that the sprinkler system was probably running for at least 6 hours? Yep, my neighbor came over and rang our doorbell about ten times before I answered it and said something about a lake with a flood. All I could think of was "yes, we have a lake across the street from us". Then when I looked around him, I thought "oh no, this can't be good". I ran to the garage to turn off the sprinkler system, but it did nothing when I shut it off. That's when I called my friend and he rushed over to help me. I give God praise for today and for providing the help that I needed..
Sprinklers break...pipes break...technology breaks...things break...people break...but God does not break.
He never leaves me. His grace flows down and covers me. Thank you Jesus!

Michael just called and said that they made it to the airport safely and had no problems getting through security. Praise the Lord! Please pray for the team...they have a long trip to Burkina Faso ahead of them. They should be arriving in Ouagadougou around 9:40am (PST) tomorrow. (Burkina Faso is 7 hours ahead of us.) I will update throughout the trip as I get information. Thanks!

Things that I am thankful for...

1) a beautiful sunny day

2) birds...i love chirping and beautiful songs..i love how God created each kind to have its own distinct song...it makes me long to be in my parents backyard birdwatching.

3) my husband...if you don't know (but i am sure you have already figured it out from previous posts) my husband is a youth pastor. this weekend he is leading a group of ten to Africa for two weeks...so that means he will be missing his first father's day...we are celebrating father's day tomorrow. Michael is a wonderful father...He is a proud papa...He loves playing with Mackenzie...He loves snuggling...Most of all, he loves making Kenzie giggle.

There are definitely two things in life that Mackenzie loves....taking baths (or just playing in water in general) and her favorite blankies. When it comes to her blankies, it's pretty comical how much she loves them. If she sees one of her blankies from across the room, she waves and slaps her hands around like crazy. Then when you give it to her, she will nosedive on it and roll around all over it. It's been so sweet to see her personality forming more and more each day.

It's summer time in Washington! We have been busy this week enjoying parks, pools, lots of walks and playing with friends. School is just about out here. Youth group is in summer mode which means missions trips and lots of activities. We kicked it off last night with a bonfire. Mackenzie lasted until 11pm (don't worry that's not a normal bedtime...her norm is 8pm) and then we came home. I feel so blessed that she is so flexible and easy going. Plus she's a total people person ( I wonder who she gets that from) which makes it much easier. This week she has been really into dancing and clapping. Of course that is all done to the sound of mommy's made up songs about Kenzie Baby and Baby Girl. I have a video but I am having trouble uploading it..I will try again later. In the mean time, here are some photos from the past week.

Mommy and I were invited to a Mother and Daughter Tea at our friends Alisa and Ella's home. We wore our pretty dresses and I even got to wear a hat. I love hats! At the tea party, we ate yummy scones, strawberries and little sandwiches. There was also some scrumptious strawberry cake, but mommy wouldn't let me have any. I am still too tiny for too many sweets. However, I did drink some delicious raspberry punch while mommy sipped hot raspberry tea. I can't wait for next year's tea. Thanks Ella and Alisa!!!

Mackenzie has been pretty busy these days playing with all her friends.

She ate her first lasagna this week as well. I guess she did not inherit the "fall asleep in your pasta" gene from me. Although the gene may lay dormant in her body for the first couple of years. =) More on that story later....

I know it has been way too long since I have updated our blog. We just returned home this evening from Portland. We were there for a conference. Prior to Portland, we took the high schoolers on a retreat for the weekend. We had an awesome time at both the conference and retreat, but are glad to be home again with Mackenzie. She went on the youth retreat with us, but we left her with a friend for a couple of days while we attended the conference in Portland. As you can see, Mackenzie has changed a lot. She now gets up on her knees and even pulls herself up on her feet at times as well. It's amazing how fast she is growing. I am sad to say that her hair does look like it's going to be light brown instead of blond, but I am still holding out for the blond pigtails...hehe!! I hope to post more pics in the next couple of days, but don't hold me to it!!!!!

A lot has changed in the last couple of weeks. Mackenzie is now crawling. She follows her mommy all over the house. AND..she is getting four...yes, I said FOUR... of her top teeth all at once! Thank God for Tylenol!!! She is eating a lot of table foods. The other night, I gave her some pieces of cooked potatoes with ground beef and peppers. She could not get enough of it and she makes it very clear (scream) when she wants more or isn't getting served fast enough. Did I mention that she knows what the word NO means? Hehe!!

7 1/2 months old.....Mackenzie is growing leaps and bounds! Her feet will soon not fit on the little hook under her highchair, but for now she can enjoy it all she wants. This week, she started to wave. She gets really giggly and happy when she sees others waving at her.

I love the little things that people do that make them who they are. As you can see in the pic, Mackenzie puts her little feet on this little hook that is on the highchair. She squeezes her little toes in it. It is so cute. I just had to take a picture of it. It is totally something I would do too. Who doesn't like putting their feet up once in a while...right? It's things like this that I love discovering about Mackenzie. I just hope she doesn't crack her toes like her dad...just kidding Michael...well sort of. =)

Sorry, it has been so long since I posted anything. We have been really busy with youth group functions, etc. Last weekend, we took 45 people to Portland for our district youth conference. It was a lot of fun. Mackenzie enjoyed being passed from student to student. The guys especially liked her. =) When we returned home on Monday evening, I started to have a weird feeling in my throat. Needless to say, I woke up Tuesday with the flu and have been battling it ever since. Then my poor husband woke up on Wednesday morning with flu symptoms, and he too has been sick ever since. Thank God for great youth leaders....They stepped in for us on Wednesday night. Another praise is that Mackenzie has not been sick. Although, we did wonder this morning when we woke up to hear her coughing in her crib, but I think that was her trying to get our attention. =) She is getting so big. She will be crawling before we know it. This week she has been getting up on her hands and knees. She keeps scooting backwards and hasn't figured out how to go forward yet. However, it won't be long until she knows, and then we are in for some chasing. =)

I finally got her to smile today without her putting her tongue over her two little teeth. They came in the beginning of January so around 5 months.

The other day I was going through Mackenzie's clothes to pull out the ones that no longer fit her. It's pretty sad how many cute outfits only fit her for one second. This dress was always my favorite. I remember buying it when my oldest sister Tami came to visit me when I was 8 months pregnant and ready to bust..that's no joke...those pics are now stored in a vault for my eyes only. =)

So needless to say, I was trying all of my fav outfits on Mackenzie. I tried to get her to look at the camera, but all she wanted to do was play with her dress. They grow way too fast!!!

My good friend Michele is a great photographer (as you can see) and took this pic in November when Mackenzie was 3 months old. Every time I look at this picture it makes my eyes well up. What a precious gift from God! She lights up our lives and home everyday with her cheerful smiles, babbles, and adorable face. Our little bundle of less than 1%. Yes, that's what the doctors told us were our chances of ever conceiving a child on our own. We serve a God of miracles!

My close friend Liz and I often joke that Mackenzie and her son Mitchell are going to get married. When our photographer friend Michele was over a couple of weeks ago, we could not resist a photo shoot of the two together. As you can see, Mackenzie was checking Mitchell out and kept trying to grab his hand. It will be interesting to see the two of them grow up together. I am sure that they will be best of friends....just like their parents!

We started feeding Mackenzie solids about three weeks ago. You know it's time when your child is screaming and tears are flowing down her face, because she wants what you are eating. Anyways, she's so cute (of course!) when she eats.....her arms move a million times a minute, she opens her mouth real wide....the food is inserted ...and you hear a great "mmmmmmm"...it's so sweet....she thinks it is too...especially when you are serving sweet potatoes. The funny thing is that we did not even teach her to say "mmmmmm"...it must be a natural human instinct. I wonder if the Israelites did the same thing when they ate manna everyday. =)

Our little Mackenzie is growing up so fast! During this past month, she cut two teeth. She's definitely the Biggie..Biggie Girl! We are loving every moment with our little miracle girl! She brings so much joy to us and everyone that meets her. Seriously...have you seen a cuter face???
